Which tread covering for which application?
Serrated aluminium (non-slip performance class R10) Use this covering for applications in dry inside areas, for applications without liquids (e.g. water, oil) or heavy soiling with sand, dust and grease etc. Use this covering where there are lower requirements with regard to an anti-slip finish.
Steel open grid (non-slip performance class R12) Use this covering in soiled areas or areas where there are liquids (e.g. water, oil). The grid allows liquid to drain from the step or dirt to fall through, so that soiling on the steps is kept to a minimum. Use this covering where there are high requirements as regards the anti-slip finish.
Perforated plate steel (non-slip performance class R13) Use this covering where there is heavy soiling and if there are high requirements as regards the anti-slip finish.
What is a non-slip performance class?
Tread safety, also called slip resistance, is a characteristic of steps or a platform surface in the presence of slippery substances (e. g. water, oil etc.).
A shift in the body’s centre of gravity can cause persons to lose their balance and fall. Slip-resistant surfaces prevent accidents. There may be an increased risk of slipping when working with water, oil, grease or other slippery substances.
In such environments, a non-slip tread covering or platform surface reduces the risk of slipping and makes a significant contribution to ensuring the safety of your personnel.
R10 = normal coefficient of friction
R12 = high coefficient of friction
R13 = very high coefficient of friction Also see the following ARTICLE.
